A Vet who can treat your pet for heart disease AND separation anxiety

Amy Holloway

Have you been lucky enough to meet JT yet? Joao Teotonio graduated as a veterinary surgeon from the University of Lisbon in Portugal and joined Clent Hills Vets in October 2016. With a special interest in Behavioural Medicine, we knew JT would be a real asset to our veterinary team.

Could you and your pet benefit from a behavioural appointment?

Who is JT?

On a typical day, JT breezes through the preparation room at our Bromsgrove practice with an air of calmness about him. He is very passionate about the work he does, but cool and collected at the same time, just the guy you want on your team in an emergency or difficult situation.

We were thrilled when JT decided to join our team as he has a real knack of making people, and animals, feel at ease. After a long day, he’s also great at boosting morale and you’ll rarely find him without a smile on his face.

A special interest in behavioural medicine

JT’s main fields of interest are Small Animal General Practice and Behavioural Medicine. He travelled to Australia in 2015 where he spent 3 months learning Behavioural Medicine with Dr Kersti Seksel – one of the world’s top specialists in the subject. He then moved back to Portugal to write his Master’s thesis on fear-related disorders in dogs and his interest for behaviour never stopped growing.

JT now runs Veterinary Behavioural Appointments at our Bromsgrove and Hagley practices, as well as offering home visits, treating disorders such as separation-related anxiety, compulsive behaviours, noise phobias, aggression and generalised anxiety in dogs, and spraying in the home and fighting amongst multicat-households.

Find out more about why pets develop behavioural disorders and how an appointment with JT could help.

A Yoga instructor as well?

If he’s not working with animals or enjoying the company of his friends and family, you are likely to find Jo practising, or teaching Yoga, often to a group of our vets and nurses after work! Known for his open personality, we asked JT to describe himself, “Driven by the will to turn yesterdays into better tomorrows.”

If you would like JT to take care of your pet’s health and wellbeing, book an appointment with him today.
