Keep your House Tidy

Author: Amy Holloway

With Christmas just around the corner, we’ve got a few simple gift ideas to keep your pet entertained and your house well-organised and tidy.

Christmas gifts can be a great way to treat your pet, but can also make your life easier by buying items that are aimed at solving pet-related challenges around the home.

If you would like any ideas or advice, our teams are always happy to talk ‘pets’ and ‘pet gifts’, but in the meantime, here are a few ideas to get you started…

Pet gifts to help keep your home tidy

Owning any animal comes with a certain amount of ‘stuff’, for example, toys, leads, beds, treats, bowls….the list goes on and is especially true for dogs. If you’re fed up of seeing dog leads randomly strewn across the house, why not try this fun dedicated lead hook, so you can always find one when you need one.

There are lots of personalised pet products online that can help you keep your home tidy, from baskets for toys, mats for food, and storage solutions for treats. As well as for your own home, they would make great gifts for any other dog or cat owners in your life.

Problem-solving pet presents

Do you love it when your cat wants to play, but not at the expense of the furniture? If your cat’s a ‘furniture destroyer’, try this cardboard scratcher lounger – a multifunctional toy that will help to sharpen your cat’s claws and is durable enough for lounging, playing and sleeping.

If your dog literally wolfs down its food far too quickly, a Green feeder could be just what they need. A Green feeder turns meal times into a fun challenge, dispersing food around integral obstacles to slow down eating speed. Dogs who eat slowly are at less risk of bloating and other health issues. Green feeders are available in a range of sizes and are dishwasher-safe.

Please a pet who loves to play… and sleep

Our veterinary team always has great suggestions for keeping your pet entertained, so please do ask us when you’re next here. There’s a huge variety of animal games to buy online – toys that are challenging help to alleviate boredom when your pet is without company.

And, of course, there’s the all-important matter of sleep. Pet teepees are the perfect idea for cats and small dogs, helping them feel safe and secure as well as comfortable. You could always opt for something personalised, or in-keeping with the rest of your decor.

When buying a pet bed, our veterinary nurses advise you to consider:

  • Size and shape – for comfort
  • Ease of cleaning – can you easily remove traces of muddy paws and household dust?
  • Accessories – do you need extra blankets or cushions?

Then, there’s no shortage of fun dress-up clothes online or in supermarkets and homeware shops, and of course, edible pet treats. But remember, keep your pet feeling special this Christmas by not feeding them unsuitable foods which we will be posting about in a couple of days. As much as we enjoy seeing you, we’re sure you’d rather not spend your holiday in our clinic…

What to do in an emergency

If your pet has eaten something unsuitable, contact our Emergency Care Service immediately, on 01527 889810 even if it’s out of hours – we have emergency cover throughout the holidays. Don’t wait for symptoms to appear as early treatment is critical. Tell us how much of the item your pet has eaten and bring the packaging to our Bromsgrove surgery if you are advised that your pet needs to be seen by a Vet.
