Learn basic and life-saving Pet First Aid at our FREE Event

Amy Holloway

Would you know what to do if your pet starts to choke or have a seizure? How about if they eat poison or are involved a road traffic accident? Any idea how to perform CPR on a cat or a dog? We believe Pet First Aid is something that would benefit every pet owner and that’s why we’re inviting you to come and learn some invaluable Pet First Aid techniques at our FREE Event on Wednesday 18th April, in support of National Pet Month.

National Pet Month runs from April 1st to May 7th and focuses on responsible pet ownership. During this period we will be talking about preventative healthcare, microchipping, pet insurance, nutrition and exercise, all the things you should be doing to ensure your pet is happy and healthy.

This year, however, we want to do even more to educate pet owners and having the know-how to potentially save a pet’s life in an emergency, catapults you to the top of the class when it comes to being a responsible owner!

Hosting the event is Emily Ashdown RVN & Pet Physiotherapist, and she will be joined by Chrissie Poke, Deputy Head Nurse at our Hagley practice and RVN’s Emma Hill and Tash Wright. Emily has seen many emergency situations during her time as a vet nurse, some of which could have ended differently had the owner known some basic first aid.

Emily Ashdown RVN is hosting our pet first aid eventEmily (right) explains, “TIme is of the essence in an emergency situation and when every second counts, knowing what you can do to help your pet immediately until you can get them to see a  vet can make all the difference.”

The types of emergencies that will be covered in this event include Choking, Haemorrhage, Heat Stroke, Poisons, Respiratory & Cardiac Arrest, Road Traffic Accidents, Seizures, Shock, Stings and Wounds.

Plus, we will show you how to deal with minor cuts and grazes, how and why you would bandage your pet’s limb, and what you should keep in your pet first aid kit at home.

We will be selling Pet First Aid Kits at the event, with profits going to our Charity of the Year – Worcestershire Wildlife Trust. We’ll also have a raffle and other fundraising activities if you wish to take part.

This really is going to be a jam-packed event that you don’t want to miss!

Event Information:

Our Pet First Aid event is aimed at predominantly cat & dog owners. Some of the techniques could be used on small furries, however, more care is needed for these types of pets and generally signs and symptoms when established are near fatal for them.

Date: Wednesday 18th April

Time: Registration & refreshments open at 7pm > Event starts promptly at 7:30pm (1.5hrs approx.)

Venue: Bromsgrove School, Worcester Road, Bromsgrove B61 7HP – park in their Main Entrance Car Park and the Lecture Theatre will be signposted from there.
